Year

2022

Twitter's Chirp developer conference originally took place back in 2010 as a scrappy, small group of 3rd party Twitter developers gathered for a hackathon.

In March 2022, Twitter decided to bring back Chirp. Amy Udelson (marketing director) assigned me the task of creating and establishing the brand identity for Chirp.

I began by conducting a competitor analysis to understand what our competitors were currently doing with their respective developer conferences, and to strategize how we can position ourselves within our industry.

A common denominator for each developer conference was the branding was closely related to the parent brand, but had unique differentiators that served as a design system. This design system can easily be adjusted per calendar year, in order to consistently provide a fresh look and feel.

After establishing the foundation of Chirp's identity, I began visual exploration, which included the logo, visual elements, colors, typography, and photography. Next, I added rules and parameters to the usage of each of these components, and created the brand guidelines.

I pitched the Chirp brand to our Brand, Legal, Marketing, and Developer Relations stakeholders, ultimately getting their sign off.

The finalized brand guidelines were then sent to our internal studio and external vendors to begin asset production. I served as a consultant and creative director on all creative assets related to Chirp.

Outcome

Unfortunately, after 9 months of late nights and hard work, Chirp was ultimately cancelled two weeks before the event due to new Twitter ownership prioritization.

But hey, it's at least a cool case study, right?
