Scope

1 day

Year

2020

Since this was a midseason update, the motifs in this asset were supposed to match some of the motifs in the project brief for Season 5, such as featuring The Shadow Company.

Originally, there was a different designer on this project. The client had issues with the looks that our team was delivering, so I was brought into this project the day before the drop-dead date. Since I only had one day to make this key art, my art director suggested I use the Free Access Weekend art (seen below, made by Annie Yost) as a starting point.

I decided to make an intentional, clear flow of smoke, embers, and light, moving from the left side of the image to the right. This was an attempt to make the asset feel more dynamic and have motion. I added accent lighting to the primary operator, and sent off this look to the client. They were ecstatic and had only a few small edits.

Less than 24 hours later, this art was finalized and sent off to our motion graphics team to animate for the official Season 5 trailer. This art also doubled as the Season 5.5 roadmap background art.
